Fethiye’nin antik çağlardaki adı, Likya dilinde “ışık ülkesi” anlamına gelen “Telmessos”tur. Öte yandan, ışık, tüm görsel sanatların temelidir ve fotoğraf da ışıktır! Işık ve Fethiye bir araya gelince, hemen fotoğraf akla gelmiyor mu?
Fotoğrafçı Fethiye’de olunca, Fethiye ışıkla yıkanmış doğasını gözler önüne serince, ışık da fotoğrafçının en önemli malzemesi olunca ge…riye ne kalıyor dersiniz? Fethiye, denizi ve doğasıyla olduğu kadar, tarihi ve kültürü ile de her mevsim farklı güzellikler sunar ziyaretçilerine. Kimisi doğa harikası Ölüdeniz’in dingin sularında kulaç atarken, kimisi Saklıkent Kanyonu’nun aşılmaz yollarında var gücüyle ilerler. Babadağ’ın yamaçlarından denize uzanan Belcekız kumsalına gelenler ise; maviliklerin, asırlık zeytin ağaçlarının, kızılçam ormanlarının üzerinde süzülen rengarenk yamaç paraşütlerini seyre dalarlar. Doğaya, denize ve maceraya koşanların, iyot kokusuna tutkunların memleketidir Fethiye. Deniz kardeşlerini kollarıyla kucaklamış, gezgin ruhları beklemektedir…
“Fethiye Fotoğraf Kulübü 2006-Mayıs ayında kurulmuştur. Fethiye Belediyesi Kültür Merkezinin düzenlediği fotoğraf kursuna katılan biz kursiyerler iki aylık eğitimden sonra hocamız Sn. Faruk Akbaş ile birlikte beraberliğimize kulüp olarak devam etme kararı aldık. Her ay öğrenme, belgeleme ve eğlence amaçlı hafta sonu gezileri düzenlemekteyiz. Burada doğa ve tarih rehberimiz olmaktadır. Fotoğraf bizim için; modern hayatın getirdiği sıradanlıktan kurtulmanın bir yolu, yaşamı tanımanın ve anlatmanın, sevgiyi – şefkati hissetmenin bir başka yoludur.Kısaca duygularımızı kaydetmenin yoludur.”
Bugün ve Gelecek
Fethiye Fotoğraf Kulübü, bugün geldiği noktada, üyelerinin birlikte öğrenerek ve keyif alarak fotoğraf ürettiği bir topluluk olmuştur. Kurumsal bir kimlik kazanma yolunda ilerlemektedir. Kulüp haftada bir gün Fethiye Belediyesi Kültür Merkezi’nde toplanmaktadır. Ayda bir kez bir fotoğraf ustasını konuk ederek kulüp üyelerinin kişisel fotoğrafik gelişimi için olanak sağlamakta ve bir ustayla fotoğraf paylaşmanın ayrıcalığını üyelerine yaşatmaktadır. Sevgili Faruk Akbaş her zaman yanımızda olarak dostluğu ve yol göstericiliği ile perspektifimizi geliştirmektedir.

Photography, Fethiye and Light…
The name of Fethiye in the ancient times was “Telmessos”, meaning “Land of Lights” in the Lycian language. All the same, light is the essence of all visual arts and at its most basic level, photography is light! When Fethiye and Light get together, doesn’t photography come into mind?
Once the photographer is in Fethiye, once Fethiye reveals her nature showered with light and considering that light is the principal material of the photographer, what do you think that’s left behind? My blues, greens unfolding towards the horizon grade by grade, my bays as shelters for travellers are all children of both…” Fethiye offers altered beauties to her visitors in every season both with her turquoise waters and nature together with her history and culture. While some stroke in the tranquil waters of the nature’s-wonder Ölüdeniz, some move along the impassable paths of the Saklıkent Canyon with might and main. The ones who come to Belcekız Beach that reaches out to sea from the sides of Babadag, immerse themselves watching the multicoloured paragliders gliding over the blueness, centuries-old olive trees and red-pine trees. Fethiye is the homeland for those who run for nature, sea and adventure and for those who are passionately in love with the iodine odour. The sea embraced her siblings with her wide-open arms, waiting for the explorer souls…“Fethiye Photography Club was founded in May 2006. Together with our instructor Mr. Faruk Akbaş, we the course attendees who had taken the photography course organized by the Fethiye Cultural Centre (FKM) of the Fethiye Municipality have decided to carry on with our synergy as a club following our education of two months. has .
Furthermore, every month, we organize weekend excursions for learning, documentation and leisure purposes where nature and history guide us through our way. For us photography is: a way of getting out of the simplicity that modern life brings; another way of identifying and expressing life, feeling love and affection. In brief, it is a way of recording our feelings.”
Present and the Future
In its present stand, Fethiye Photography Club has become a community where the members produce photographs through learning and enjoying together. The Club is now on its way to having a corporate identity. At present, the endeavours on becoming an association is being carried out with the Management and Secondary. .We hold a club meeting at the Fethiye Cultural Centre of the Fethiye Municipality once a week. Once a month, we invite a professional photographer as a guest instructor to provide the club members with an opportunity for their personal photographic development which offers members the privilege of sharing the art of photography with an expert.
Our dear Faruk Akbaş has been enhancing our perspective with his friendship and guideness by being always on our side.
